Chicago The Musical closing after 15 years in London’s West End

West End’s long running musical Chicago which is runing at Garrick Theatre London is to close after 15 years.

Chicago The Musical is based in the roaring 1920’s. Justice is on trial for the husband killing bad girls of shady Chicago. A chorus girl murders her lover but manages to get off through a strange assortment of allies. She forms an unusual nightclub act with another murderess with the hopes of keeping them both out of trouble.with lots of hot jazz – and cold-blooded killers!… songs include ‘All That Jazz’, ‘Funny Honey’, ‘Mr Cellophane’, ‘Nowadays’ and ‘Razzle Dazzle’.

The Broadway production won 6 1997 Tony Awards including ‘Best Revival of a Musical’, ‘Best Lighting Design’, ‘Best Choreography’ and ‘Best Direction of a Musical’.

Having snatched the crown of the longest running American musical from A Chorus Line, the London production of Chicago is at its new home, the Garrick Theatre.

This universal tale of fame, fortune and… all that jazz, recounts the kiss-and-tell tale of chorus girl Roxie Hart who kills her lover; her rivalry with glamorous double-murderer Velma Kelly and their slick lawyer, Billy Flynn’s attempts to keep his clients from Death Row. From the unforgettable first blast of All That Jazz right through to the last note of its sizzling jazz-drenched score and from the sensuous choreography inspired by the legendary Bob Fosse to its sensational performers, Chicago is a musical phenomenon like no other.

Million Dollar Quartet – Early Closure

Million Dollar Quartet has posted early closing notices for 14 Jan 2012, at the Noel Coward Theatre, London.

Million Dollar Quarter is a smash hit on Broadway and in Chicago, the Tony Award-winning MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET tells the electrifying story of the night ELVIS PRESLEY, JOHNNY CASH, CARL PERKINS and JERRY LEE LEWIS came together to make music, and ended up making history.

Inspired by the actual event, that took place on 4 December 1956 at Sun Records in Memphis, this ecstatic and engaging musical is a story of fame, friendship, discovery, divided loyalties, professional jealousy and incredible music as four of the music industry’s most extraordinary talents, all in their creative prime, made music together for the first and only time in their careers.

The legendary meeting was masterminded by Sun Records’ founder Sam Phillips, who discovered all four of the musicians, and brought Elvis Presley (and his then girlfriend) back to the recording studio that launched him to stardom. Together with Sun Records’ fast-rising new superstar Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins, who was still chasing his next big hit after writing and recording Blue Suede Shoes, the fourth member of this impromptu ‘quartet’ was Phillips’ latest signing, Jerry Lee Lewis.

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET features over 20 classic hits from a golden era of music including: Blue Suede Shoes, Folsom Prison Blues, Fever, Memories Are Made Of This, That’s All Right, Down By The Riverside, Sixteen Tons, (There Will Be) Peace In The Valley, I Walk The Line, I Hear You Knocking, Great Balls Off Fire, Hound Dog, Riders In The Sky, See You Later Alligator and Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On.

Barclays Live is looking for dancers to show their stuff on the big stage.  Along with Strictly Come Dancing’s Brendan Cole, Barclays Live is bringing a nationwide dance tour to Croydon on 16 April trying to find the region’s hottest dance acts.  The best dancer can take home the £1,000 prize.

If you think you have what it takes to be London’s next big dance star, simply go to www.barclayslive.co.uk and upload a short clip of your performance.  The competition is open to individuals, duos, groups and troupes.

The top ten will perform to a panel of judges, including Brendan Cole, and an audience outside the Whitgift Centre. Further entertainment on the day will include live music, professional performances, and a dance master class from Strictly Come Dancing’s Brendan Cole.

Following the live performances, five of the ten acts will be handpicked by the celebrity judging panel.  The remaining five will then go through to an online public vote whereby the acts will rely on supporters for votes with the one getting the most votes to dance away as the new star all the way to the bank with a £1,000 cheque.

Following the tour’s success in major UK cities including Manchester, London (Leicester Square) and Glasgow, Barclays Live is back on the hunt for all London has to offer.  Last year, the young street dance duo Steadiflux from Birmingham were crowned Barclays Live UK Champions after beating off stiff competition in the form of UK Hip Hop champions Smash Broz and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists Mini Mezzos.  Steadiflux then picked up over 100,000 votes nationally to take the title and a further £1,000 prize.
